Bactericidal activity of SQ 26776

Abstract
Inhibitory activity of SQ 26,776 (SQ) was compared with that of cefoxitin, cefotaxime and HR 221, a new oxim-cephalosporin, in Mueller-Hinton-Agar. It was as active as cefotaxime and HR 221 against the Enterobacteriaceae and markedly more active than cefoxitin. It was also active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa but possessed no or poor activity against Staphylococcus aureus . At 4 mg/l it required as little as 51 min to reduce the inoculum of E. coli by 99% to as long as 300 min for Serratia marcescens . No adverse effect on cidal activity was seen when the concentration was increased.
