Effect of Atropine, Tetraethylammonium, Banthine and Bentyl on Motility of the Small Intestine

Abstract
The action of Banthine bromide (methantheline bromide), Bentyl HC1 ([beta]-diethylaminoethyl 1-cyclohexyl-cyclohexanecarboxylate HC1) and tetraethylammonium chloride (Etamon) on the small intestine of the dog (in groups of 10 compared with controls in groups of 10) was compared to that of atropine. All significantly depressed propulsive motility as detd. with Macht''s method. In twice the dosage for Banthine and Bentyl and 20 times the dosage for Etamon the results were about the same as with atropine.
