Abstract
Strains of Clostridium difficile isolated from patients with pseudomembranous colitis or diarrhoea were all sensitive to concentrations of vancomycin which are readily attained in faeces by oral therapy. All strains were sensitive to metronidazole and resistant to aminoglycosides and trimethroprim. Resistance to other antibiotics was more common than is usually observed in Clostridium species. Keywords
