Abstract
During 1972 an outbreak of disease due to the "RM bacterium" occurred in caged rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) in a southern Saskatchewan lake. The mortality rate was approximately 1% of the population per week. Histopathologic lesions involved primarily the hematopoietic and reticuloendothelial systems. It is postulated that the disease was introduced with shipments of trout imported from Idaho shortly before the outbreak.
