Abstract
The Ss were observed in their home cages by sampling their behavior across time to determine how the pattern of behavior changes as a function of deprivation experience. Ss were deprived either continuously, i. e., deprived throughout 9 days of observation, or cyclically, i. e., maintained on a daily schedule, for 15 days. Relative to satiated controls, both hungry groups showed a marked increase in activity and disruption of the normal diurnal cyclicity and thirsty Ss showed little change. There was little difference between cyclically and continuously deprived Ss.
