Abstract
Lactic acid stimulates the release of glycerol significantly in vitro in the resting muscle. Although glycerol release is enhanced by lactate there are no FFA released into the medium. In contrast high concentration of lactate in the medium stimulates the uptake of FFA into the muscle significantly. In the presence of glucose lactate promotes the resynthesis of glycogen. The influences of lactic acid upon the muscle metabolism are discussed. It may be speculated that the elevated concentration of lactate increases the supply of substrates in muscle during exercise. 1 Supported by grants from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bad GodesbergKeywords
