Abstract
The 13C n.m.r. spectra of xanthomegnin (1) and related compounds [(2)–(5), (7), and (9)] have been assigned. Spectra of xanthomegnin and viomellein biosynthesised from singly and doubly 13C-labelled acetate confirm the polyketide origin of these metabolites and provide additional evidence for the structures proposed for the pigments. Keywords
