Amorphization mechanism in metallic crystalline solids under irradiation

Abstract
The problem of the amorphization mechanism of crystalline materials under energetic irradiation has remained a puzzling one. We show how recent investigations on electron irradiation of metallic compounds give the key to this puzzle through the role of point defects, probably mainly interstitials.Keywords
