Abstract
An aerobic, thermophillc, spore-forming Bacillus sp., isolated from soil, which grows at 55[degree] but not at 37[degree] was used to study the effect of temperature on the protein-synthesizing systems. In the presence of a mixture of 17 amino acids, a purine-pyrimidine mixture and glucose, labeled glycine was incorporated into the protein and was accompanied by synthesis of protein. The optimum temperature for incorporation appeared to be much the same as that for growth.
