Abstract
Using isocaloric feeding of 2 fat-free basal diets, 1 high in protein and the other in carbohydrate, rats supplied with pryidoxine showed an increase in carcass fat with a decreased I2 value. Rats deprived of vit. B6 contained markedly less carcass fat with an apparent conservation of phospholipids and of unsaturated fatty acids. There were no marked differences in the amt. or characteristics of liver lipids. Data on the incorporation of C14 (from fed glucose) suggest that fat synthesis proceeded equally in control and deficient rats. The decreased quantity of fat in deprived rats may have been due to rapid utilization. Keywords
