Abstract
The antifeeding activity of 39 plant extracts against selected species of stored-product insect pests was evaluated. The extracts were prepared from a collection of traditional medicine plants representing 9 African species collected in Zaire and belonging to the Meliaceae, Acanthaceae, Simarroubaceae and Fabaceae familes. Adults and larvae of Tribbolium confusum Duv., adults of Sitophilus granarius L., and larvae of Trogoderma granarium Ev. were used in the feeding-deterrent tests using standard behavioral choice and no-choice tests of indicated food. The most effective plant antifeedants were extracts from Entandrophragma spp., Khaya spp. (Meliaceae) and Quassia africana (Simaroubaceae). Keywords
