Abstract
Necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for one mode to be an eigenmode of a simple fixed-free spring-mass system, and for two given modes to be eigenmodes of the same system. It is shown that when two given modes satisfy these conditions it is possible to construct the system, which is unique except for a scale factor.Keywords
