Abstract
The collapse problem for plate bending is considered as an infinite dimensional mathematical programming problem. The duality between the static and kinematic formulations of limit analysis is proved, and it is shown that limit fields for bending moments and displacement rates exist. Finally we analyze the approximation of the continuous problem by finite-dimensional convex programming problems using the finite element method. Keywords
