A Survey of Cam Manufacture Methods

Abstract
Contained herein is a discussion of the more commonly used methods and hardware available for the production of cams. The text is divided into four areas, including discussion on “original cam” and “copied cam” manufacture methods; numerical control machines, as regards cam manufacture; and finally a brief survey of current industry practice in cam design and manufacture. Listed in tabular form throughout the work are summaries of the various methods of manufacture and also of the various machines available for manufacture. Also, cited are 365 references containing information regarding the various aspects of cam manufacture. These references are categorized by content to facilitate easy access to those of interest.
