Abstract
A simulated, problem-solving strategy was chosen to develop a clinical learning model where advanced clinical skills, common to both medical and nursing students, were targeted. Students were expected to work collaboratively in mixed groups in a largely self-directed manner in order to achieve some pre-determined learning goals. They were expected to solve and manage each problem from the perspective of their own role and level of clinical responsibility. Student evaluation of the model was generally positive.
