Abstract
Phylogenetic relationships were investigated among species of Valonia as part of a larger generic-level study of 28 taxa in the Siphonocladales-Cladophorales complex (Chlorophyta). Data were obtained from comparisons of morphology, details of cell division, and immunological distance measurements among species. The results show that Valonia ventricosa is more closely related to Siphonocladus and Dictyosphaeria than to Valonia aegagropila, V. jastigiata, and V. utricularis. A new genus, Ventricaria, is therefore proposed to accommodate it.This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
