Abstract
Expressions are obtained for the three-dimensional second virial coefficient in physical adsorption for a system in which the adsorbed particles interact via Lennard-Jones forces plus the three-body force derived by Sinanoğlu and Pitzer. Using these expressions one can investigate the relative importance of the three-dimensional effect of the three-body force. For the particular system of argon on carbon black it is found that the two-dimensional approximation is very good. Keywords
