Abstract
Eighty-four white-face wether lambs were used in a comparative slaughter experiment to determine their net energy requirements for maintenance (NEm) and gain (NEg). The metabolizable energy (ME) content of the diet was 2.67 and 2.59 kcals ME/g DM when fed at either a maintenance or ad libitum level of feeding, respectively. The ME was used for maintenance and gain with efficiencies of 65.7% and 40.8%, respectively. The NEm and NEg contents of the diet were 1.75 and 1.04 kcals NE/g DM, respectively. The daily NEm requirement was 79.4 kcal/W¾kg and the daily NEg requirement was 322.2 kcal/kg gain/W¾kg. Copyright © 1973. American Society of Animal Science .
