Structural changes and energy dissipation during fatigue in copper

Abstract
Simultaneous observations have been made of the metallographic changes visible on the surface, and of the changes in energy dissipation, which take place during the fatigue testing of specimens of fully annealed copper. The apparatus and methods used are briefly described, and the results summarized. It is maintained that, in this case at least, there is no direct connexion between the changes in energy dissipation and the progress towards fatigue failure, and other experiments in support of thesis are described.
