Effect of Incubation Time onLactobacillus caseiBioassay: Variation with Two Different Commercial Assay Media

Abstract
The effect of incubation time on the Lactobacillus casei bioassay was investigated because of disparate results from two recent studies. Incubation time studies were performed with two commercial assay media. It was found that serum folate values decrease with increasing incubation time in BBL medium, but show very little change with time in Difco medium. This finding that the effect of incubation time on the serum folate value varies markedly with the commercial assay medium used apparently resolves the disparate results of the prior studies.
