Abstract
The effective magnetic anisotropy energies associated with the domain theory are derived to second order for cubic crystals. These effective anisotropy energies are expressed in terms of the intrinsic anisotropy for an undeformed crystal, the magnetostriction, and the elastic moduli. Also, in the process of deriving the effective anisotropy energies to second order, the expression for the magnetostriction of a cubic crystal is expanded to sixth order in the direction cosines for the magnetization. The interrelation between the effective anisotropy in domains and domain walls is studied and its influence upon the domain configuration suggested. Keywords
