Abstract
A prospective questionnaire study with a 6-month follow-up was carried out to determine the incidence of post-prostatectomy impotence. 57% of patients were potent at the time of operation. A man with full potency had a 4% chance of becoming totally impotent and a 3% chance of becoming partially impotent. A man with failing preoperative potency had a 10% chance of becoming totally impotent and a 22% chance of becoming worse. No particular method of operation was at fault. One-third of potent men claimed to have some postoperative ejaculation. Keywords
