Abstract
The addition of very small amts. of KI in the form of iodized chow to the diet of [male] guinea pigs between the ages of 2 and 6 wks. resulted in an increase in mitotic activity in the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Guinea pigs, 3 to 4 mos. old, did not respond to such small doses of KI. Guinea pigs maintained on diets to which no I was added did not respond as intensely to subsequent adm. of larger quantities of KI (0.01 and 0.05 g. daily) as did guinea pigs maintained on a diet containing iodized chow. With these larger doses a typical maximal response was observed in both the thyroid and parathyroid glands at about the 15th day, which was then followed by retrogression. This response increased with increasing age, up to the maximum age tested (4 mos.). Within a rather wide range, larger doses of KI produced more marked mitotic activity in the thyroid and parathyroid glands than did smaller doses. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
