Abstract
Peritonsillar abscess responds to treatment by i.m. penicillin (or erythromycin). The condition may develop in spite of the oral administration of broad spectrum antibiotics. The clinical response to penicillin is consistent with Streptococcous being the causative organism. The economic argument in favor of quinsy-tonsillectomy is valid only if the patient is likely to undergo subsequent tonsillectomy. Keywords
