Abstract
All of the magnetic structures possible in a DO 19 lattice with magnetic and crystallographic cells of the same dimension are compiled. Two new models, related by a rotation of 90° of magnetic moments, are proposed for the magnetic structure of Mn 3 X ( X = Ga , Ge , Sn ) compounds. As essential feature of these models is the orthorhombic magnetic symmetry. The presence of the weak ferromagnetism and of the hyperfine field at the tin site can be easily interpreted by a simple picture of the interactions present. The neutron diffraction experiments are also fully explained. The only interaction which is able to stabilize the proposed structure is an antisymmetric exchange of proper sign and magnitude, clearly indicating the importance of Dzyaloshinski‐Moriya type interaction in these metallic compounds. Keywords
