Abstract
Many state governments have turned to lotteries as a source of revenue. This paper examines three terms that describe the prize structure of lotteries, and then presents an empirical analysis of regular lottery sales in New York State from the beginning of the lottery in 1967 through March 1975. A demand function for lottery sales is estimated using multiple regression analysis and the policy implications of this analysis are discussed. Keywords
