Attitudes of the Diabetic Child and His Parents Toward His Illness

Abstract
One of the principal problems of the young diabetic is his family's adjustment to his disease. His response to treatment depends on parental attitude. A study at a camp for diabetic girls showed that control of diabetes was better in those whose parents were overanxious, overindulgent, perfectionist or “normal” than in those whose parents were indifferent. Both children and parents need to be better educated in the course and treatment of the disease.
