Abstract
Tadpoles of Rana catesbeiana treated intraperitoneally with doses of 18 to 54 units of mammalian parathyroid extract (Para-Thor-Mone, Lilly) underwent osteolysis as characterized by loss of mineral salt and organic matrix around mature osteocytes, metachromatic changes in the matrix, and production of protease. At the same time, the mature epiphyseal cartilage was lost in part, presumably through local proteolytic activity. The collagenase resorption of the tail was accelerated by 40% in 3 days. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
