Abstract
This review examines the role of graduated elastic compression stockings in the prevention of postoperative deep vein thrombosis. Used alone compression stockings reduce the incidence of postoperative deep vein thrombosis by approximately 60 per cent and when used in combination with other preventive methods, such as low dose heparin or intermittent calf compression, they further reduce the incidence by up to 85 per cent. Keywords
