Abstract
A high degree of vascular anastomotic connections between mandibular arteries and also with other facial blood vessels were visually demonstrated radiographically by injection of thorotrast and their functional significance was evaluated by pressure recordings. The mandibular arteries were exposed surgically, tied and cannulated distal to the ligature. Continous pressure recordings were made from the cannula during mechanical manipulations of various major blood vessels. Clamping of the major arteries to the head reduced the pressure to near 50 mm/Hg, but zero pressure was obtained only by clamping the ascending aorta. Keywords
