Abstract
The enthalpy of combustion of phenyl formate, C7H6O2, has been determined as –3 343.4 ± 2.8 kJ mol–1. This yields an enthalpy of formation of the liquid of –268.6 ± 2.9 kJ mol–1. The enthalpy of vaporisation, ΔHvap= 52.9 ± 1.0 kJ mol–1, has been derived from vapour pressure measurements. Values of bond dissociation energies involving phenyl formate are discussed. Keywords
