Abstract
Mechanisms of synthesis and degradation of purine nucleotides in an extract of pig heart muscle were studied. The more active synthetic pathways were via the phosphorylation of adenosine and the condensation of adenine or hypoxanthine with 5-phosphoribosyl-l-pyrophosphate (PRPP). De novo synthesis appeared less active. Evidence for the dephosphorylation of adenylic acid, as well as for the enzymes adenylic acid deaminase, adenosine deaminase, and nucleoside phosphorylase is presented. Keywords
