Abstract
The paper gives a bried account of the main results obtained in an ivestigation of problems arising in connection with the use of pivots and jewels for bearings in instrucments and meters. The means adopted for obtaining accurately shaped pivots and for the measurement of privots and jewels are described. A method of measureing hardness and determining suitable radii of curvauture for pivots was developed from an investigation of their deformation under static load. The frictional torque between pivots and jewels was studies theoretically and a simple method of measuring the torque was developed. The last parts of the paper deal with experiments on the wear of pivots and jewels. Keywords
