Abstract
Glycine carbon incorporation into protein and CO2 and glucose carbon incorporation into fatty acid and CO2 by isolated rat epididymal adipose tissue was measured. Hypophysectomy of the donor animal, under certain circumstances, appeared to diminish the ability of subsequently isolated adipose tissue to incorporate glycine carbon into protein. Administration of 1 mg of bovine growth hormone once a day for 3 days to the hypophysectomized animals resulted in significantly increased glycine incorporation into protein and an apparent diminution of glucose metabolism to fatty acids and CO2.
