Medical Care Plans as a Source of Morbidity Data: The Prevalence of Illness and Associated Volume of Service

Abstract
Morbidity data are presented of average annual "prevalence rates" for various diagnostic conditions for the period 1948-1951. These data are derived from the basis reporting system of HIP through which physicians furnish information in all services they render to HIP members. These data are compiled and show highest incidence of respiratory diseases (421.8 p.t. enrollees per year), diseases of the central nervous system (161.2) and skin diseases (122.5). Less common classifications of interest include accidental injuries (99.7), deliveries and complications of pregnancy (18.2) and infectious diseases (38.0). Some diseases have changing frequency with the ages of the patients. These data are presented in detail.
