Aquoluminescence from γ-Irradiated Alkali Halides. II. Spectral Analysis and Effect of pH of the Medium

Abstract
The emission of a bluish‐green glow during the dissolution of γ‐irradiated alkali halides has been recently reported under the name of aquoluminescence. We present here details for its production, observation, and for the measurement of its intensity. Typical oscillograms of the glow and its spectral analysis are also given. A probable mechanism for the origin of aquoluminescence is suggested consistent with the effects observed thereon due to pH of the medium and the addition of electron acceptors and donors prior to dissolution of the irradiated salt.
