Abstract
Over a ten‐year period, placenta praevia occurred in 41 instances among 12 485 deliveries (ratio 1: 305). In 19 of these, cervical suture was undertaken in order to prevent severe bleeding while prolonging pregnancy. Infants weighing 2 500 g or less were delivered in seven of the 41 cases (17.1%). Of 43 infants, two, of which one was a twin, failed to survive (4.7%). Calculated in terms of single pregnancies, the figures correct to 12.8 and 2.6%, respectively. These figures are lower than any previously published.
