Abstract
Electroluminescent small particle size phosphors with normal particle size distribution were prepared. This was accomplished by jet milling a large particle size nonelectroluminescent phosphor to less than one micrometer. The jet‐milled material was subjected to a thermal treatment in excess copper sulfate. This resulted in the diffusion of EL generating copper sulfide through the crystal imperfections created by the jet milling action. Lamps prepared from this small particle size phosphor showed brightnesses between 20–25 fL when operated at 200V and 400 Hz.
