Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura and Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome in HLA-Identical Siblings

Abstract
Diarrhea caused by excessive production of certain hormones by tumors is associated with conversion of the small intestine or colon from an absorbing into a secretory organ (1). Although treatment of diarrhea is most specifically aimed at the tumor, it is not always effective. Another approach is to stimulate intestinal absorption or inhibit the intestinal secretory processes by pharmacotherapy aimed directly at intestinal electrolyte transport processes. We report here a case of pancreatic cholera syndrome in a patient in whom diarrhea dramatically responded to pharmacotherapy with the phenothiazine trifluoperazine. A 53-year-old woman was originally diagnosed as having the pancreatic cholera
