Abstract
Response of the basic period-doubling mode of the dissipative Fermi-Ulam model to a periodic perturbation is studied both experimentally and theoretically. An intuitively obvious explanation of the noisy-precursors phenomenon is presented. Possible practical implications of the resonant-response phenomenon are discussed. Connections with the virtual Hopf phenomenon predicted by Wiesenfeld are indicated. Keywords
