Abstract
Three hundred and eighty four 85Sr bone scintiscans on 123 patients with suspected bone lesions were reviewed. The bone scans were compared with the results of clinical evaluation, roentgenographic skeletal survey and histologic findings. Eighty three scans but only 50 skeletal roentgenograms were abnormal. Four scans were falsely negative; these occurred in "purely osteolytic" lesions as visualized by roentgenography. The bone scan was particularly useful in evaluating patients with suspected metastatic and lymphomatous bone disease, osteomyelitis and Paget''s disease. It was also abnormal in chondrosarcoma, Ewing''s sarcoma, giant cell tumor, multiple myeloma and osteogenesis imperfecta. Abnormalities on the scan are generally non-specific, but afford an opportunity for earlier diagnosis and localization of certain lesions. Keywords
