Abstract
Two cases are presented in which a systemic viral illness produced a rash almost exclusively in sun-exposed areas. Correct diagnosis in the above cases required extensive investigation and contradicted the clinical impression of the involved physicians. This suggests that a wide spectrum of viral exanthems may present in this way occasionally, but escape detection, although more documented cases are needed to verify this statement. Wider appreciation of the phenomenon might prevent unfortunate errors in diagnosis and therapy. Hypotheses to explain the accentuation of viral exanthems in sun-exposed areas are developed. Keywords
