Abstract
There appear to be in the literature reports of only seven cases in which the injection of iodized oil into the uterine cavity was employed for the purpose of verifying a diagnosis of abdominal pregnancy. The first one to use hysterography for this purpose was Bermann1in 1925. The others who employed this procedure were Gabaston and Harguindeguy,2Mendenhall,3Couvelaire, Portes and Digonnet,4Osborn5and Nölle.6It is true that such gestations are not often encountered and even when present are frequently not suspected. However, when a diagnosis of abdominal pregnancy seems to be the correct one, injection of iodized oil into the uterus is not only a simple and relatively harmless procedure but presents absolute evidence of the presence of a pregnancy outside the uterine cavity.
