Abstract
Gentisyl alcohol (2,5-dihydroxybcnzyl alcohol), m.p. 100[degree], occurs together with patulin as a metabolic product of P. patulum. Its isolation from the culture soln. and its identification are described. It has been synthesized by catalytic hydro-genation (Pd-norite) of gentisic aldehyde.
