Abstract
Uniaxial compression of ZnSe–Cr crystals along the fourth‐order axis results in shift and splitting of the zero‐phonon lines of the absorption band, connected with the 5B̂2(5T2) → (5Â1 + 5B̂1) (5E) transition of the impurity Cr2+ ions, and in dichroism, which is caused by the reorientation of the Jahn‐Teller centres Cr2+ along the stress direction. Spectra of stressed crystals are calculated on the base of the exchange‐charge model. In imperfect (twinned) ZnSe crystals two types of Cr2+ centres are observed. These centres are identified as Cr2+ ions in the interlayers of a twin structure. Keywords
