Chronic Pain in Adolescent Patients

Abstract
Present methods of pain treatment are based on models of acute and chronic pain. The present article discusses the interface between these two models in treating chronically ill adolescents who cope poorly with pain and are therefore overly dependent on the medical system. Case material and developmental issues are described in order to highlight the apparent key factors in the development and perpetutation of the problem. Treatment strategies and suggestions for future research are offered.
