Abstract
A reverse hysteresis loop of nematic liquid crystals is experimentally observed in C-V characteristic driven by a DC electric field. A width of the hysteresis depends on the materials: both liquid crystal and surface aligning layer. This phenomenon can be qualitatively explained by a surface electric double layer consisting of impurity ions. Keywords
