Abstract
Paired peripheral ganglia within the locust mandibular segment are described. Each mandibular ganglion contains the cell bodies of 22–25 neurones. Four of these are sensory neurones which innervate the receptor strand of one of the mandibular proprioceptors. The other neurones connect the suboesophageal ganglion with the tritocerebral lobes of the brain, and with the first ganglion of the stomatogastric nervous system, the frontal ganglion. Keywords
