Abstract
100,000 Oxf. units of penicillin were taken orally by 2 oo and 1 o who fasted for 3-6 hrs. Assays by cylinder plate technique on diluted urine specimens showed that 8-33% of the drug was excreted in the urine. The maximum excretion occurred in the 1st hr. and the urine was penicillin-free in 6 hrs. Some penicillin was apparently destroyed by digestive secretions. Ingestion of 10 g. NaHCO3 with penicillin definitely decreased the amt. of penicillin excreted. The reasons are uncertain. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
