Abstract
In sub-Saharan Africa, malaria continues to impose an enormous burden, causing between 0.5 and 2 million deaths per year.1 The Roll Back Malaria initiative aims to halve malaria mortality by 2010,2 with a strategy relying heavily on the use of insecticide-treated bed nets (ITNs), which have been shown to reduce all-cause mortality among children younger than 5 years by a mean of 17% in the first 2 years after their introduction.3Keywords
